ECIR Safety Certificates
An EICR is an Electrical Installation Condition Report. We often explain this to our clients as an “M.O.T for your home electrics”. The EICR is used to highlight any parts of the install which are in an unsafe condition or no longer meet the current regulations and require updating to bring the property up to a safe satisfactory condition. There are 2 outcomes for an EICR, “Satisfactory” or “Unsatisfactory” and this is concluded by any findings that need remediation. Just like an M.O.T any advisory’s will be listed up on the report. These will be graded as “C1, C2, C3, F1”. C1 is used where there is immediate danger present and requires instant rectification, any C1s will leave the report as “unsatisfactory” and would require resolution prior to the install being classed as “satisfactory”. C2 is used where there is something that is potentially dangerous, any C2s will also leave the report as “unsatisfactory”. C3 is a recommendation for improvement, this is used where we spot things within the install that don’t necessarily need changing immediately but we recommend it. Having C3’s on the report will still allow the report to be at a “satisfactory” level regardless of how many are on there. Finally is the FI code, this is used where “further investigation” is required and is often used when readings are not as we would expect them to be meaning there could be an underlying issue within the install that needs a bit more time looking into it after the EICR takes place. FI codes also result in the report being “Unsatisfactory”.
